A note from Mom and Dad: This post is part of our Kid’s View series, written by Hazel (age 9) about visiting Adventure Cove Waterpark with kids on Sentosa. Practical details for parents are at the bottom.

The place we went on our second full day in Singapore was Sentosa Island, away from the city.  It had a water park and an aquarium. We got there in a pretty fun way, we took a skylift or at least that’s what I think it’s called. Next we tried to find Adventure Cove Waterpark.  It took us a while to find it, but just like everything else, we eventually did.

First, my mom found us some chairs to chill out in, but we didn’t sit for long because there were plenty of things to do. Next we had to get a locker to put all of our stuff into.  Once we had that figured out then we were able to have fun.

So we started out with the wave pool (which are my favorites), but my mom was no fun and said she wouldn’t join us.  She just chilled at our lounge chairs while my dad and I were splashing around in the wave pool. Did I mention that my mom had gotten us the best seats ever? Why, you may ask, well… they had an activity where it was like you were snorkeling, but it was much more controlled and we were sitting right in front of it. The part that made it so awesome is that there was glass right in front of our seats so we could see all the fishies!!!

  • Yellow and gray fish
  • Fish at Rainbow Reef
  • Blue fish
  • Yellow fish

When we were snorkeling, we could get really close to the fish, but some of the people there couldn’t swim and were flopping around like fish out of water.  Luckily, the workers gave everyone life jackets, because I think that they have had that experience before! A couple times water leaked into my snorkel mask, but that was ok. It was a really cool experience. Even though that happened, I was still able to see lots of colorful fish. I would definitely recommend it! We snorkeled about 5 times, and we eventually left that exhibit.

We went back to the wave pool, and this time my mom came so we swam for about 45 minutes and then we saw an obstacle course. I finally convinced my parents to join me. The first stop was kind of like a diving board, but not with the springy bounce, and it was round. There was a lower one and a higher one. The first time I did it, I did the lower one. Once we were past that there was a net thing that you had to cross like a bridge, but it was a net and with handles.  I went through it like a breeze but it took my parents some time to figure it out. Next there was a net that you had to climb across like a monkey. I wasn’t the best at it, but I think my parents just skipped it all together. After the net, there was a balance beam but… it was black so it absorbed the sun’s heat rays a lot! It was way too hot to walk across, so I ran for my life, but luckily I didn’t burn myself or fall in the water. We did the obstacle course one more time, and at the start I jumped off the higher diving board thing, and then just skipped the rest.

The next exhibit was a lazy river. It was the longest lazy river I have ever floated down. When we started, I thought it was going to be just like a normal lazy river, but then there was a rain-like thing that poured water all over us.  We saw ten of them throughout the lazy river.  Up next was a big bucket almost as big as a car.  I tried to make my inner tube wait for the bucket to pour and send me flying, and I succeeded because I flew 20 feet.  My parents were behind because they like to go slow (and slow is boring) but they waited for the bucket too, that part was awesome.

There was this popsicle place that I really wanted a popsicle from, but there was also a magnetic slide that you could go on that went up and down. It is like a roller coaster but you are in a little boat car like thing – crazy right?!? And I have to admit, I was a little scared to go on it, but my parents said if I go on the slide then they would get me a popsicle.  Because I was scared, I wanted to wait a bit, so we went in the wave pool (again) but eventually we got out and into the waterslide line.  We had to wait a bit.  I went with my mom.  When we finally got to the point where we got in the raft that took us on a magnetic conveyor belt, it almost went straight up into the air.   When we finally got to the top, there was an opening into the actual water slide that was enclosed.  At first it was pretty chill, then all of a sudden, we almost dropped straight down, then straight back up again.  We even caught air.  It almost gave me a panic attack, but I have to admit, it was kind of fun.  Then one part we were literally on the waterslide’s wall.  It was crazy awesome.  We had a couple more of the things where you went straight down very fast and then popped up like nothing had happened, and then it shot us out into a pool.  I ended up liking it so much that I went on it two more times.  My mom didn’t want to go on it again, but I persuaded her to go with me, but my dad didn’t because he was too tall and he didn’t want to hit his head again.  In the end I got my popsicle!!!

Stay tuned for my next post about the aquarium at the Singapore Oceanarium!!!

  3. We miss you, Hazel! Make some more funny stories! Penny

I loved hearing about your Waterpark adventure. Penny read the whole thing aloud to us tonight. She gets her practice in and we all enjoyed the story. My favorite part was the snorkeler’s that were flopping around. I could picture that! LOL Coach Hannah
